A sublime show of finishing from 'Voltage' saw him seal an 8-4 win over World Number One, Peter Wright with finishes of 164, 160 and 143 highlights as he heads into the final ProTour tomorrow then his European Championship defence next week.
As alluded to, Cross spectacularly hit 164 to draw first blood and hit 160 to go 2-1 up and was throwing for a 3-1 lead. An 11-dart 84 checkout saw Wright draw it level though at 2-2. He held from there and had chances to break again with Cross careless in slipping into treble seven on 76 but after returning, he cleaned it up for 3-3.
A 143 was added to Cross’ 100+ tally to go 4-3 up and break again. Cross finally held to go 5-3 up and open up a gap. Double 10 saw him three clear at 6-3 and the one-way traffic continued as he went one away.
Cross had a lapse in his scoring but that was solely on Wright’s throw and he began his dominance again leaving 122 after nine-darts. Match darts went begging though and he slipped into double 15 offering Wright a lifeline on 104 but he didn’t take it and ‘Voltage’ hit double 10 finally to claim it.
