So far so good for the seeded players this afternoon at the
Gibraltar Darts Trophy as
Rob Cross and
Ryan Searle have moved through to the final day of action on The Rock.
Cross, who will go into his defence of the European Championship at the end of the month survived a late fightback from Rusty-Jake Rodriguez to move through 6-3.
'Voltage' surged into a 5-0 lead but Rodriguez finally got a leg on the board at 5-1 with a 68 checkout and started to battle back. He followed it up with a break sealing a 15-darter on double 14. Before holding on double 16.
But heading back onto Cross' throw, he sealed it with a 14 darter after initially missing 161 on the bull hitting double eight on the 25 combination to claim it.
While for Searle, he took out two ton plus checkouts including a high checkout of 136 to return to form and the winners' circle after a poor year on the
European Tour.
He defeated William O'Connor 6-3 and in the process ended the hopes of 'The Magpie' of qualifying for the European Championship who needed a run at least to the final day but 'Heavy Metal' was too good with a 98 average and 60% on the doubles.
