The Dutch Dream was not realised as
Joe Cullen reigns in Rotterdam winning Night Seven of this year's
Premier League Darts with victory over home favourite
Michael van Gerwen who failed to seal a third weekly win of the year.
It was a game which summed up the evening's proceedings with deciding leg darting drama once again the order of play between the duo and it was 'The Rockstar' who reigned supreme to send the Dutch faithful home without an overall win for 'The Green Machine' but a first of the year for Cullen instead.
A 180 and double four saw Cullen hold to begin proceedings but despite an average of only 75, Van Gerwen levelled up with Cullen only getting a ton plus opportunity at MVG’s throw.
MVG missed a break chance though and Cullen punished with a 118 on the bull to go 2-1 up and silence the crowd.
He missed the same target for a 164 and Van Gerwen hit double 16 to make it 2-2. MVG missed bull bull for a 120 and Cullen return for a 97 checkout for 3-2.
Van Gerwen responded with an 81 checkout to make it 3-3. It was a poor leg for Cullen and despite a 180, he was relying on Van Gerwen missing and he didn’t producing a 76 to make it 4-3.
Again it was another case of Cullen needing Van Gerwen to miss and he did this time and Cullen broke back with a 66 checkout to make it 4-4.
Van Gerwen missed another chance to break and Cullen silenced the booing crowd with a 114 checkout to go one away.
MVG sent it all the way. Cullen though went back to back 180’s but laid up 51 for the win and missed two match darts but on his fourth he claimed it.
