Michael van Gerwen is still the leader in the
Premier League Darts standings after Rotterdam despite losing in the final.
Van Gerwen lost out to
Joe Cullen and therefore reached 17 points and he is now one point ahead of Peter Wright with Jonny Clayton third with twelve points.
Weekly winner Cullen rose from eighth to fourth place. Gerwyn Price, Michael Smith, Gary Anderson and James Wade are virtually out of the playoff spots.
New format
The eight participants play sixteen times a tournament. It will be arranged so that a player meets the other participants twice in a quarterfinal. During two weeks of play, in the eighth and sixteenth week of play, the draw is made on the basis of the points position.
Points can be scored with results in the sixteen tournaments. A semi-final earns two points, a second place three points and a tournament win five points and a £10,000 bonus.
Based on these points the new Premier League Darts ranking is formed. The four best players advance to the Premier League Darts play-offs.
