Damon Heta and
Simon Whitlock are once again joining forces for Team Australia at the
World Cup of Darts 2025. The prestigious country tournament will be held from June 12 to 15 at the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt, where 40 countries will compete for the coveted title with a prize pool of as much as £450,000.
Australia is among the select group of five countries that have ever won the World Cup of Darts to their name. In 2022, it was Heta and Whitlock who dominated the tournament, capturing the title in Frankfurt. Three years later, they return to the same venue in an attempt to match that feat. Number seven in the world Damon Heta is now the captain of "The Aussies," while Whitlock is one of four players who have never missed an edition of the Nations tournament.
France is also in the game again with the duo of Thibault Tricole and Jacques Labre, who now make up the French team for the third year in a row. In 2023, they surprisingly reached the quarter-finals and hope to make history again this year in Frankfurt.
The Chinese team is once again led by Xiaochen Zong, who is making his fifth appearance at the tournament. He is again paired with Lihao Wen this year, with whom he also shared the podium on behalf of China two years ago.
The final compositions of countries with at least two players on the PDC Order of Merit will be announced after the conclusion of Players Championship 16 on Tuesday, May 13.
Important qualifying tournaments are scheduled next weekend, including the India Qualifier and the Championship Darts Latin America and Caribbean (CDLC) Qualifier. Haupai Puha's teammate for New Zealand will also be determined then, following the conclusion of the DPNZ ProTour weekend.
Earlier this week it was announced that Michael van Gerwen is not available for the Dutch team. As a result, Gian van Veen is likely to make his debut in the orange shirt. Van Veen is the second Dutchman on the PDC Order of Merit behind Danny Noppert.
