Chris Dobey and Dave Chisnall have become the first two men to secure progression to the semi-finals of the 2024 Flanders Darts Trophy in Antwerp after victories over Luke Woodhouse and Peter Wright respectively.
Starting strongly, Dobey raced into an early lead by breaking the Woodhouse throw in 16 darts, before holding in the following leg in 14. An 80 checkout in leg 3 then saw 'Hollywood' move a double break up. Stepping up his average over the 103 mark, an 11-dart hold then boosted Dobey into a clear 4-0 lead. Woodhouse did threaten a comeback, getting back to 5-3, but he'd simply left himself too much work to do and Dobey secured the 6-3 win for a spot in the semis.
For the right to face Dobey in that semi-final later tonight, Peter Wright faced off with Dave Chisnall. Wright has been back somewhere near his very best form in recent weeks and the Scot was again throwing some top quality darts to open this contest, racing into a 2-0 lead early on with legs of 13 and 14 darts. 'Chizzy' though, fired right back and levelled up at 2-2 with a burst of his own.
With the momentum swinging again however, it was then Wright's turn to reel off two legs without reply and move 4-2 ahead. Following the formula, Chisnall then responded in kind to break and hold throw, levelling up the contest once again at 4-4. With both players then trading holds of throw, the tie was sent all the way to a deciding leg. In it, Chizzy had the darts and courtesy of a beautiful 87 checkout on the bull, secured the victory.
