The first man into the last eight at the 2024
Masters in Milton Keynes is
Dave Chisnall after a 10-8 victory over
Danny Noppert on Saturday afternoon.
After his thrilling performance on Friday night, averaging over 109, Chisnall was struggling to replicate such a high level early on. Despite three 180s in the opening session, it was Noppert who went into the break with his nose in front at 3-2.
Noppert continued his momentum in the first leg of the second session to extend his lead to 4-2. This seemed to have awoken a spark in Chisnall however as the Englishman reeled off the subsequent three legs without reply to take the lead himself at 5-4. With Noppert taking the 10th, it was all square at the second interval.
Surviving a missed dart at tops from Noppert, Chisnall held firm to open the third session. After the pair exchanged a hold of throw apiece in the next two legs, 'Chizzy' punished Noppert misses in leg 14 with a break to go 8-6 ahead. A miscount then saw Noppert on double 3, when he couldn't clean up his mess, Chisnall was again on hand to benefit a move a leg from the win.
Noppert refocused well and kept himself alive with a hold of throw in leg 16. Then after 'Chizzy' dropped low with a match dart at tops, 'The Freeze' pulled another leg back via an 87 checkout. There was no comeback however, as Chisnall sealed a 10-8 win on double 19.
