Damon Heta has convincingly qualified for the last sixteen of the
Masters. The 36-year-old Australian defeated Gabriel Clemens 6-2 in the opening round on Friday night.
Impressively, Heta averaged just shy of 103 in his victory. "I got the win and I did what I needed to do," Heta reflected in his post-match press conference. "I had three weeks off when I went back home. So to get the win tonight, my first Masters win as well, is good."
'The Heat' is currently ranked 11th in the world. "I've set my goals for this year and I've set some things not just darts but life goals as well. So I think, all's going to come together," he explains. "My end goal would be like, top eight at the end of the year."
Heta will take on Rob Cross in the last 16. "He has blocked my path to the final stage of a tournament many times in the past ad and I'm sick of him," he said. "But I know I can beat him. Rob has been playing very well lately, but if I reach the same level again as I did against Clemens - or even slightly better - then I definitely have a chance," Heta concluded.
Speaking to Oche also during the interview, he was quizzed about supposedly removing the facial hair. But he said the people have spoken and he is looking to add character with it.
"The people have spoken. The wife she hated facial hair but now she's coming on board. It's a bit of character building and I enjoy it. I don't see too many players with character like this."
