De Sousa after claiming maiden win at World Championship: “Now it's different because my game is more consistent”

Jose de Sousa claimed his maiden victory at the PDC World Darts Championship recovering from a set down to defeat Ross Smith.

It ended a losing run which stretched back to 2011/12 but as he pointed out he is different to his previous appearances with ‘The Special One’ now a major champion which he admitted also adds more pressure.

"I think there is more pressure on me now, but I don't think about that. I just play my game," said De Sousa.

"Ross is a great player. I'm really happy to get my first win here, it's really amazing for me.

"I don't think I'm the best player but I'm one of the best players in the world in this moment.

"This is my fourth time here, I lost always in the first round but now it's different because my game is more consistent. I will keep trying my best and hopefully I can show a bit more in my next game."
