Jose de Sousa is through to the third round of the PDC World Darts Championship after seeing off Simon Whitlock in an incredible comeback win.
De Sousa recovered from two sets down and being on the brink to seal a 3-2 victory over 'The Wizard' with three ton-plus finishes and sealed a spot in the third round.
De Sousa missed three darts for the opening set and Whitlock sent it the distance. He hit a second 180 and missed 138 for the set only to hit double 12 finally to seal it.
He had darts to go two sets to nil up but missed double 20 and De Sousa was throwing to force a decider in the second set.
A 114 checkout sent it all the way with the pressure now on Whitlock. He dealt with that for a 2-0 lead on double 10. De Sousa held on double 10. Whitlock missed 66 for the hold and De Sousa held on double five before holding for the set back.
Whitlock missed 121 on the bull to hold and De Sousa broke with a 127 on the bull. After Whitlock went six darts into a nine-darter, De Sousa missed a dart for a hold but Whitlock missed another for a break and ‘The Special One’ made it 2-0.
Whitlock pinned a 144 checkout though to hold on double 18. Double four saw De Sousa make it 2-2 in sets. Double 12 saw Whitlock level up. Both missed hatfuls of darts at doubles and De Sousa finally hit double two to hold. But De Sousa pinned double 10 to seal the unlikely comeback from there.
