Near nine-dart miss for Williams in straight sets win over Zonneveld at PDC World Darts Championship

Lewy Williams will face Michael van Gerwen in the second round of the 2022/23 PDC World Darts Championship and nearly sealed it in style against Niels Zonneveld.

Williams nearly sealed it in style with a missed nine-dart finish to repeat the feat previously set by William Borland last year to win. He went on the wire of double 12 but it ends a superb performance for 'The Prince of Wales'.

It was a commanding straight sets win with a 92.8 average, three 180's and 41% on the outer ring.

He made a solid start to proceedings with a 93.5 average to seal it 3-1. The second set was more even with Williams hitting a 100 checkout to claim it in the decider.

But again he surged ahead and towards the finish this time. It was the set of the combination finishing as he hit a 92 checkout followed by a 70 to go one away.

Zonneveld held throw but in the end, Williams took the potential of a set back away from him albeit after missing the nine-dart finish, he messed around before finally sealing a 14-darter.
