De Sousa knocks out Van Gerwen on final day PDC Autumn Series

Michael van Gerwen was knocked out by Jose de Sousa on Wednesday during the final day of the PDC Autumn Series.

Van Gerwen had a higher average (103.1) than De Sousa (101.9), but the result was 6-3 in favor of the Portuguese ace, who recorded his first victory over the world number one.

The 31-year-old Dutchman took the lead with a 13-darter, but then saw De Sousa throw two 13-darters to take the lead 3-1. With an 11-darter and a 12-darter, Van Gerwen reduced the deficit to 4-3, but De Sousa then won two legs in a row for the win.

As a result of this defeat, Mighty Mike loses the lead on the PDC Autumn Series Order of Merit to Gerwyn Price. The Iceman can also no longer be overtaken by other players on the final day of the five-day event in Niedernhausen.
