Jonny Clayton has avenged his final defeat from last week's Premier League Darts seeing off Joe Cullen in the final in Liverpool as the defending champion hits the front heading into Belfast.
Clayton produced another comeback of sorts coming from 3-1 down to beat Cullen who is making his debut in this year's tournament 6-4 as he spurned opportunities in a game full of breaks of throw.
Instead, it is 'The Ferret' who claims the five points and the £10,000 winners bonus heading into another weekend of ProTour action.
Clayton missed two darts to seal an opening hold and Cullen claimed a break of throw to begin the final. He consolidated on double eight to go 2-0 up.
Clayton finally got himself on the board but Cullen started his throw with a 180 and pinned double 16 to go 3-1 up.
Clayton smashed in a maximum as he looked to revive his fortunes albeit only on his throw. He handed Cullen a chance to break again on the bull but this wasn’t taken and ‘The Ferret’ went 3-2 behind looking for a break.
A 180 was pinned by Cullen but this was bookended by poor visits and he missed 104 to hold which allowed Clayton back for a break on double 16 to make it 3-3.
A third maximum saw Cullen aim to put the pressure on for an immediate break back and double 20 was left after 12 darts allowing him to move back in front at 4-3 and he was throwing for a 5-3 lead.
A poor start again was punished though as Clayton hit a 180. He spurned a chance at a break but returned with Cullen missing the second double 20 for 100 and again it turned as ‘The Ferret’ made it 4-4.
A 180 and 140 again from Cullen saw him head towards a fifth consecutive break of throw. He missed another chance though and Clayton went one away at 5-4.
A timely 180 saw Clayton head towards the brink. He missed the big 16 for a match dart at 76 but Cullen messed up on 112 and ‘The Ferret’ made no mistake this time.
