Defending champion Price surges past King to continue World Grand Prix title defence

Gerwyn Price has continued his World Grand Prix title defence moving into the Quarter-Finals after seeing off Mervyn King 3-1.

Price came from a set down to defeat the 2012 finalist with a 93 average and five 180's en route. He will face Dave Chisnall or Ross Smith.

To begin the tie, King wrapped up the first set to take the game early on to Price with a 3-1 lead with a 109 checkout and 75% on finishing doubles.

Price missed a break in the form of a 130 checkout but King missed 56. Price though couldn't hit five and King couldn't either.

'The Iceman' finally got the break though en route to sealing the set 3-1 to leave it finely poised.

Price sealed a 13-dart hold on double 12 to open the second set and take the lead for the first time. He missed 161 on the bull but returned for a 25 on double 12.

A 177 left Price 44 but King took out 52. The latter missed 156 on double 18 with Price pressuring on 180 but he wasn't allowed back as King pinned double nine.

But it went to a deciding leg and it was Price who was the one celebrating as he hit the front at 2-1 up.

He missed bull for a 161 checkout but despite the near heroics, King took the leg on double 18 after Price couldn't pin 25.

But he did pin double 20 to make it 1-1, he ended up missing 104 but hit double 10 next turn to go one away from the Quarter-Finals. He claimed it pinning double 20 to surge through.
