Devastating Damon Heta produces sensational 117.48 average, Michael Smith spoils Raymond van Barneveld's birthday

The European Darts Grand Prix continues and after two stunning displays from Gerwyn Price and Gary Anderson to open the night, three more came up in quick succession including one of the greatest European Tour displays ever seen.

Damon Heta continues to get better and better and the Aussie ace smashed in a devastating 117.48 average, the third highest ever mark on the European Tour in thumping Mickey Mansell 6-2. He was averaging 128 after four legs so it could've been even better as most visits turned into trebles. He hit six 180's and 6/7 on the doubles.

Mansell himself hit an average of nearly 105, but could barely get near Heta. This was also with no ton plus checkouts either with his magic coming with two dart combos including 94 to go 4-0 up as well as an 11-dart 87 to go 5-1 up.

Prior to that was the match that was highly touted but was overshadowed in the end by the excellence of Heta as Michael Smith took on Raymond van Barneveld. It was nearly birthday delight for the doyen of Dutch darts as he roared back from 5-2 to send it the distance. But Smith took it 6-5 with an 83 checkout in the deciding leg. He put his finger to his lips as he silenced the crowd. He revealed afterwards that it wasn't aimed at Barney but instead a member of the crowd who was annoying him.

The huge averages continued with Rob Cross hitting 106 in the end. But that doesn't tell the full story against Martin Schindler. The International Darts Open champion was aiming to make it back-to-back titles. But in reality threw away the tie against Cross missing two match darts and 'Voltage' mopped up in the decider to begin his title defence with a 6-5 win.
