Luke Humphries finally defeats Luke Littler again as Michael van Gerwen makes light work of opener

Luke Humphries recorded another win over Luke Littler for the first time since winning the World Championship final. After their meeting in early January, Littler managed to win six consecutive wins over "Cool Hand Luke".

That run came to an end Saturday night at the European Darts Grand Prix. Humphries won 6-5 from 'The Nuke' after a cracker. Humphries took a break in the first leg, but lost that break in the sixth leg after a 121 finish from Littler. It then became 5-5, after which Littler got to start the last leg. He got a matchdart on the bullseye, but missed. Humphries then hit his first matchdart on tops.

Prior to that, Michael van Gerwen sealed the win having few problems with Johan Engstrom in the second round. Van Gerwen started the match with a 114 finish in the first leg and then doubled the lead with a 14-darter. Engstrom then got on the scoreboard in the third leg with a 16-darter. Van Gerwen then took the lead to 3-1 via double 1, before making it 4-1 with a fine 103 check-out. The three-time world champion then threw an 11-darter for a 5-1 lead. Van Gerwen then cleverly closed the match with a 112 finish. In doing so, Van Gerwen set up a clash with Jonny Clayton, who won over Chris Dobey in the second round.
