𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟 Dimitri Van den Bergh and Peter Wright will meet in Sunday's Betfred World Matchplay final. Only one can lift the Phil Taylor Trophy, but what a game it promises to be!
Dimitri van den Bergh has managed to reach back-to-back World Matchplay finals and this evening will face Peter Wright for a second reign with the Phil Taylor trophy.
This is somewhat surprisingly so with Van den Bergh making his debut at the Winter Gardens and carving his way through the field.
But in the main, the Belgian showed that he has good mental toughness which has brought him through.
After an easy win over Devon Petersen (10-5), Van den Bergh had a tough time against Dave Chisnall in the second round. The first nine legs were all against the darts, until the two-time World Youth Champion finally held for 6-4. In the end, it was 11-8 to The Dreammaker.
In the last eight, he faced Gerwyn Price. The Iceman pulled out all the tricks but the Belgian was calm and collected claiming victory 16-9. Van den Bergh then turned a 6-2 deficit into a 17-9 victory against Krzysztof Ratajski in his semi-final.
In his four matches played, Van den Bergh recorded a tournament average of 99.95. This is due in part to 38 180's score, the most of any player and seven more than Wright.
The Dreammaker's finishing percentage stands at 37.50%, which is relatively low. Van den Bergh produced five finishes of 100+, with a 128 checkout being his highest so far.
