Dimitri van den Bergh wins Players Championship title in Hildesheim

The twelfth Players Championship tournament of the season has become a triumph for Dimitri van den Bergh. 'The Dreammaker' won over Matt Campbell in the final of the tournament in Hildesheim.

It was Van den Bergh's seventh Players Championship final, although his last dated from 2022. Of the previous six finals, the Belgian had won two, bringing him to three Players Championship titles in addition to his two major titles.

Van den Bergh made it to the final of Players Championship 12 by defeating Martin Schindler (6-3), Maik Kuivenhoven (6-5), Mike de Decker (6-1), Dom Taylor (6-3), Boris Krcmar (6-3) and Madars Razma (7-3) in succession.

At the other end of the bracket, Campbell became the finalist. The Canadian proved a tease for the Dutch darters by eliminating four Dutchmen in a row. He first defeated Darryl Pilgrim (6-2) and Ross Smith, before Campbell dealt with Wesley Plaisier (6-3), Gian van Veen (6-5), Richard Veenstra (6-5) and Danny Noppert (7-4).

It was not a high-stakes final between Van den Bergh and Campbell, with two averages in the 87s. Campbell initially held a 3-1 lead after a 15-darter and two 17-darters.

Campbell then wasted three chances for a 4-1 lead, and then paid the price. With four 18-darters and a 17-darter, Van den Bergh turned the game around to lead 6-3. A 16-darter brought the score to 7-3, before Van den Bergh decided the final in fine fashion with a 12-darter.
