Luke Humphries was defeated in the semi-finals by
Jonny Clayton at the
World Matchplay. After the eliminations of Michael Smith, Peter Wright, Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price earlier in the tournament, the world number five had been the highest-ranked player left and favourite for the title.
Humphries had dreamt of taking a first major title in Blackpool, but lost to Clayton after a thrilling match. "Disappointed to lose last night of course, missed a few opportunities here and there which could of changed the game completely,'' the Englishman wrote about it on Twitter.
With a finishing percentage of 45 percent, Humphries certainly did not perform badly on the doubles, yet 'Cool Hand Luke' thinks he missed out on the finishes. ''But I must say Jonny Clayton was amazing, scored and finished very well!"
