Aspinall up to career high 5th after World Matchplay triumph as Van Duijvenbode breaks new ground on the PDC Order of Merit

After winning the second major title of his career at the World Matchplay on Sunday night, Nathan Aspinall is up into the top 5 of the PDC Order of Merit.
Aspinall secured his success with a dominant final victory over Jonny Clayton, 18-6. The added £200,000 prize money won by 'the Asp' takes him above losing semi-finalist Luke Humphries into 5th. Clayton himself has risen a spot, from 8th to 7th courtesy of his run to the final.

The rises of Clayton and Aspinall however have meant a fall for former World Champion, Rob Cross. 'Voltage' has dropped to 8th in the world rankings. Elsewhere, Dirk van Duijvenbode is into the world's top 10 for the first time in his career. He benefits from the drop of Dimitri van den Bergh, who had to drop three spots.
Michael Smith still leads the world rankings. The reigning world champion is £168,250 ahead of Van Gerwen, who overtakes Peter Wright into 2nd place, with 'Snakebite' dropping to 3rd. Gerwyn Price remains number four.

- I dont like individuals or crowds trying to put any player off when they are trying to check out, how anyone can think its okay for the crowd to whistle or shout as someone is throwing for a double is beyond me but it does seem to have become part and parcel of the modern game. I no longer play now, darts is as good as dead at a local level round my way but when i did play many years ago, no matter how intense the rivalry you never shouted out or whistled when an opponent from the other team was throwing for a double.Mysstree17-11-2024
