Peter Wright could not impress at the World Matchplay either. The Scot, who is experiencing a very disappointing season, was eliminated in the second round by Ryan Searle.
As a result, Wright lost a lot of prize money in the world rankings, as "Snakebite" took the title in Blackpool two years ago. The former world champion had to defend that achievement this year.
Wright has now dropped to third place in the world rankings and later this year even threatens to fall out of the top-10 of the PDC Order of Merit. Fellow player
Vincent van der Voort also sees Wright struggling with his form.
"Because he changes darts so often, now he doesn't know it at all. He can't rely on anything anymore. It doesn't want to anymore, the darts aren't flying right. He can't rely on himself anymore, and that's the worst thing there is,'' said 'The Dutch Destroyer' in conversation with NOS.
Van der Voort has some advice for Wright to try to turn the tide. ''He can try whatever he wants, but he has to pick one set of darts now and train a lot with that to gain confidence,'' the Dutchman said.
