Dobey delights home crowd with Smith win, Price thrashes Clayton as second semi-final set in Newcastle

Chris Dobey delivered in front of his home crowd with a delightful 6-4 win over Michael Smith to set up the second semi-final in Newcastle where he will face Gerwyn Price, the last victor in Premier League Darts action last week in Nottingham.

After a spine-tingling walk-on, it was down to business for Dobey who produced a 137 checkout on tops, tops to claim the first leg over Smith.

But Smith threatened to take the game away with three legs in a row. 'Hollywood' wasn't about about to leave the crowd empty handed though with a 180-100 to get back on level terms at 3-3.

He made it three legs in a row himself to go 4-3 up before edging closer to the finishing line at 5-4 despite initial double struggles.

But it was some superb scoring in the final leg as he hit a 177 to leave 32 which he pinned in some style to send the crowd into raptures.

But while Smith couldn't deal with the bear pit atmosphere in Newcastle, a player who knows how it feels to deal with boos and whistling is Gerwyn Price.

He will be the next opponent of Dobey after easing past his close friend and fellow Welshman, Jonny Clayton once again in a 6-1 defeat with Clayton averaging just past 80 while for 'The Iceman', it was 94.5 in a business like display.
