Glen Durrant kicked off his Premier League campaign in style with an exquisite display to dispel Michael Smith in Aberdeen.
Durrant only missed two darts at double in a 7-3 win with a 95 average and despite Smith having the same average, this was very much the difference as the Teesside ace puts his first points on the board.
Smith hit a 180 to begin the tie and hit tops to settle in immediately. He missed darts at double in the two requisite legs though and Durrant went 2-1 up with a 96 checkout book ending this.
Smith left himself on 84 and hit straight back with an 11-darter to make this tight tussle 2-2 in the early going.
Durrant produced a third consecutive break of throw to lead 3-2 and claim the initiative but could he hold? 'Duzza' did hitting his first 180 and finishing off on double 14 to lead 4-2.
Smith clawed a break straight back with a 74 checkout to make it 3-5. Durrant exquisitely break back again and to guarantee a point on his full Premier League debut.
A 169 set up to leave 32 meant that Smith had to hit a 106 to stay in it. Durrant hit double 16 as a result first time to claim the victory.
