The PDC Pro Tour this year consists of 34 Players Championships and 14 tournaments of the European Tour. Taking a quick look at the prize money, we see that England is currently well in the lead.
Six Players Championships have already been completed this year as well as one European Tour tournament. English players have already amassed 415,250 pounds in prize money in these seven tournaments. They are doing well ahead of the number two Netherlands, with 157,000 pounds in prize money.
Not entirely illogical when you know that four of the six Players Championships this year were won by English players. After all, Rob Cross, Chris Dobey, Ryan Searle and Joe Cullen won one each. Luke Littler was successful last weekend at the Belgian Darts Open, the opener of the European Tour season.
The Netherlands owes that second place to, among others, Gian van Veen. The 22-year-old reached two finals at the Players Championship this weekend, one of which he managed to win. Earlier this year Jelle Klaasen also reached the final.
The top three is completed by Wales with £61,000 in prize money. It owes that in part to Gerwyn Price, who won the second Players Championship of the year by beating Dobey in the final.
