Players Championship Order of Merit update: Gian van Veen takes over top spot from Chris Dobey, Luke Humphries up to 7th after run to final

Gian van Veen is the new leader on the Players Championship Order of Merit after the 22-year-old dart player from Poederoijen managed to post two excellent results at two Players Championship tournaments in Leicester.
On Tuesday, Van Veen already reached the final of Players Championship 5, which he really should have won. He got six matchdarts in his final against Joe Cullen, but let the match slip out of his hands 8-7. A day later Van Veen had another shot at Players Championship 6, and beat world number one Luke Humphries 8-3 in the final. In total, Van Veen earned 25,000 pounds in two days, plus he beat the entire top three of the world rankings.
At 32,000 pounds, Van Veen now tops the Players Championship Order of Merit. The Dutchman has a 3,000-pound lead over Chris Dobey, while Joe Cullen is number three with 28,000 pounds. Ryan Searle is in fourth place with 24,000 pounds.
Luke Humphries was stuck on 16,500 pounds due to his lost final, placing him in seventh spot. Reigning world champion Luke Littler can only be found in 16th position (11,000 pounds). World number three Michael van Gerwen holds the 53rd spot.
The Players Championship series continues next week with Players Championship 7 and 8 in Hildesheim where once again important prize money is at stake. Playing Players Championship tournaments is the only route for players to grant themselves entry to the Players Championship Finals. At the end of the season, the 64 best players get to compete in the final tournament in Minehead.
