Richard Ashdown was master of ceremonies at Lakeside for many years and is currently active as a spotter for Sky Sports. As a recent guest on the 'Love the Darts' podcast, Ashdown was asked a series of interesting questions.

Asked to put together his ideal 'Night at the Darts', Ashdown begins by selecting his fancy dress. "Being stereotypical I'd probably say Snow White and the dwarves or something but maybe I should go the other way and choose one of those inflatable dinosaurs you see. Something really tall and in the way!" he laughs.
The big question though, is what dream match would he like to see most. "Maybe this is a common answer but I'd have to go with the clash of eras, given they never met on the oche. It would be Eric Bristow in his mid-80s prime against Michael van Gerwen, that would be my pick," Ashdown answers.
And the venue? "The Lakeside!" Ashdown thunders in his former MC voice. "Actually though, for this match and Bristow's character, I'd like to see it played in the Netherlands. Bristow with the crowd against him like against Jocky Wilson in Scotland, it would be really entertaining to see."
Finally, he was asked to choose who he would take with him on this dream night of darting action. "First pick is James Maddison. I'm a Spurs fan and he is clearly darts mad. I'd love to enjoy a night at the darts with him. Another sportsperson, I'd love to sit with Usain Bolt. He's such a showman, I'd love to see what he makes of it all," says Ashdown.
