Evans averaged 96.2 in seeing off the Indian Qualifier with high checkout of 167 and 130 and four 180's as he produced a good display on his return to the stage.
Evans began to warm up and pinned a 180 en route to a 2-1 lead before smashing a 167 on the bull for the set.
He missed darts to break in the opener but wasn't punished by Kumar and 'Rapid' returned for the lead. A 60 checkout saw him double that as he went one away from a two set lead.
A rapid fire 68 saw Evans go one away from second round. A 48 checkout saw him go one up in the third set. He pinned a 180 but Kumar pinned an 88 checkout to level up.
But he soon went one away with double 20. With Kumar sat on double 20 for the win, Evans hit a 130 to claim victory.
