Lewis sets up World Darts Championship showdown with Anderson after recovering to defeat Campbell

Adrian Lewis will face off against Gary Anderson in a tantalising tungsten tussle after recovering from a set down to win 3-1 against Matt Campbell on the opening night of action at the 2021/22 PDC World Darts Championship.

Lewis and Anderson have faced off in two World finals but now it will be a second round showdown at the Alexandra Palace as he took out the tough Canadian who will take his spot on the PDC ProTour next season for the first time.

Lewis missed bull for an opening break and Campbell hit a 66 checkout after a 180 for a 12-dart hold.

'Jackpot' went for two double 20's for 100 but strayed into the five and was punished royally by Campbell on double five after two missed at double 15.

Lewis missed a dart at 111 but returned with Campbell unable to pin 72 and 'Jackpot' broke back. A 180 was pinned by Campbell as Lewis was hanging on in there and he pinned double 10 to send it to a decider.

Campbell had the throw but Lewis kicked off 177 as he aimed to bring the game to the Canadian.

Lewis went for two in a row and missed the treble 19 but Campbell took out 66 with Lewis sat on double 20 to claim the set.

Campbell missed a dart for the break and Lewis got off the hook to begin the second set. The former drifted into treble five off a 111 and Lewis returned for a 60 checkout to break and go 2-0 up.

A 53 checkout saw three straight legs for Lewis as he levelled up. A clutch double nine saw Campbell go 2-1 up. But up against the wall, Lewis pinned a 108 checkout to make it 2-2.

A 137 set up left 40 for Lewis and with 128 not taken out by Campbell, 'Jackpot' completed his comeback from a set down to lead 2-1 with the throw in the next set.

A big break saw Lewis make it 1-1. He missed double 18 for a 121 but survived pressure to hit double nine and go one away. 'Jackpot' missed 114 for the match and Campbell punished him to force a decider.

Lewis had the throw and pinned a 180 followed by 139 to leave 82 for the match. He left 36 with Campbell aiming at 122 which he couldn't get a dart at.

He returned and claimed it second dart in hand to set up a showdown with Gary Anderson.
