Luke Littler took advantage of invitations to all the 2024 World Series of Darts tournaments this season. Just before his seventeenth birthday, "The Nuke" wrote his first World Series title to his name.
After that, the 17-year-old Englishman also reached the final at the World Series of Darts tournaments in Den Bosch, Gliwice and Wollongong. At the Poland Darts Masters in Gliwice, Littler lifted the title for the second time.
Courtesy of his four World Series finals, Littler is seeded number one at this weekend's
World Series of Darts Finals at the AFAS Live in Amsterdam. ''It's been great to be on the World Series this year,'' Littler said. ''I enjoyed Bahrain and won my first PDC title and then won in Poland, so it shows why I should be number one seed,'' previews the teenage sensation
in conversation with the PDC.
The reigning Premier League champion hopes to end the World Series season in style this weekend. ''I'd love to win this one as the number one seed and go into the autumn with a win," he states with optimism.
The draw could've been better for Littler though. In
Ross Smith, he received one of the most difficult possible opponents. "It's a high-quality field of players and I'm sure I'll have a good game against Ross - I think everyone knows me and Ross can hit as many 180s as anyone,'' Littler concluded.
Participant field expanded
This year, 32 players will make their appearance at the World Series of Darts Finals. In past years, 24 participants competed each time. The field of participants is led by Luke Littler, who performed best at the regular World Series tournaments in 2024. Big names such as Gerwyn Price, Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen, Michael Smith and Peter Wright are also in attendance.
Van Gerwen defending champion in Amsterdam
The World Series of Darts Finals will be played for the tenth time this year. Michael van Gerwen managed to win the very first edition of this event in 2015. 'Mighty Mike' then won the World Series Finals also in 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2023.
James Wade was the best at this tournament in 2018, while Gerwyn Price ran away with the title in 2020. Jonny Clayton captured the overall victory in 2021, and in 2022 Price got to lift the title for the second time.
