Evetts whitewashes De Sousa, Eidams completes comeback win over Van der Velde at European Darts Open

The opening session of action at the European Darts Open is complete with Ted Evetts, Rene Eidams and Andy Boulton through to the second round in Leverkusen.

Jose de Sousa was a late replacement for Joe Murnan with the first iteration of the reserve list utilised in this case but it wasn't a good omen as he was trounced 6-0 by Ted Evetts.

'Super Ted' who at times has struggled for results eased through with a 98 average, 54.5% on the doubles with a high checkout of 111 and will face Dirk van Duijvenbode.

While Eidams became the latest Home Hero to move through joining Ricardo Pietreczko in tomorrow's line-up. He produced a comeback win to see off Jurjen van der Velde.

Van der Velde who has been impressing at times during his opening foray into senior darts was making his European Tour debut but failed to converted as Eidams reeled off four straight legs to seal a 6-4 win.

Boulton who has been superb on the Challenge Tour so far this season completed the line-up with an in-form Luke Woodhouse spurning a 5-3 lead.

'X-Factor' produced a 101 checkout for 5-4 followed by pouncing on Woodhouse only being able to pressure to make it 5-5 with a 67 checkout before sealing the deal with a 60 checkout. He faces Damon Heta tomorrow, while for Eidams, it is Michael Smith.
