Michael van Gerwen and
Luke Humphries are the latest two names to book their spot in the quarter-finals of the 2024
World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam this Saturday night.
For Van Gerwen, he won the double Dutch clash in the second round of the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam. With a 6-3 victory over
Danny Noppert, 'Mighty Mike' qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament at the AFAS Live. It was a fantastic performance by the three-time world champion, who posted an average of 106.17. Noppert countered with an average of 99.93. The finishing percentages were 60 percent for Van Gerwen and 33 percent for Noppert.
Van Gerwen broke Noppert already in the first leg with a 12-darter and then doubled the lead by keeping his own leg. Noppert got on the scoreboard in the third leg with a 13-darter and then stayed in pursuit for a long time. Including a 15-darter and an 86 finish, Van Gerwen kept his own legs and took a 5-3 lead. Noppert again tried to reduce the deficit to a one-leg difference, but a 12-darter by Van Gerwen determined the final score at 6-3.
Luke Humphries passed a tough test in Amsterdam with a win over
Damon Heta. 'Cool Hand Luke' settled 6-5 with Australian to qualify for the final day at the AFAS Live. Humphries missed four more chances on outer ring in the first leg and was then broken by Heta, who recorded a 65 finish for a 15-darter. However, Humphries immediately turned the deficit back into a lead with a 14-darter and an 80 finish.
The next two legs went with the darts, before Humphries managed a two-leg gap with a 14-darter and a 14-runner. The reigning world champion started the ninth leg, but Heta broke him back with an 86 check-out. The Heat kept his own leg to force a final leg. Humphries was allowed to start the final leg, however, and did an excellent job with two 180 scores in his first three visits. He was on top after nine arrows and then closed the match in style with a 10-darter.
