The absolute world's best can be found this week in New York, where the US Darts Masters has been played annually for several seasons. The tournament will be played on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1, local time.
The US Darts Masters first appeared the PDC calendar in 2017. Back then, the tournament still took place in Las Vegas, as well as in 2018 and 2019. In 2020 and 2021, the event could not take place due to the corona pandemic, after which the World Series tournament returned to New York in 2022.
Moreover, the tournament will be played at an iconic venue, namely New York's Madison Square Garden. The place where many great sports games have already been played. Over the past few years, it has become clear that the sport of darts is starting to come alive in the United States, as more and more people flock to the tournament.
At the US Darts Masters 2024, eight North American players will have the chance to compete against the eight best darters in the world. They are the eight players who in recent months have also been featured weekly on Thursday in the Premier League Darts.
Peter Wright, Michael Smith, Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen were also there the past two editions in New York. Smith won the tournament in 2022, while Van Gerwen sealed the win.. They will be joined by Rob Cross, Luke Humphries, Luke Littler and Nathan Aspinall. For Littler, of course, it will be the first time ever that he gets to participate in the US Darts Masters.
So they will all meet an American or Canadian player in the first round of the US Darts Masters. The North American representation includes Matt Campbell, Jules van Dongen and Danny Lauby, the three North American darters who currently hold a PDC Tour Card.
Stowe Buntz is also in attendance. The colorful American made his debut at the Grand Slam of Darts and the World Darts Championship in recent months, earning his spot at this tournament as the winner of the CDC Continental Cup. Alex Spellman qualified as the winner of the CDC Cross-Border Challenge. Further completing the lineup are Jeff Smith, David Cameron and Adam Sevada.
