The
World Darts Championship 2022 continues on New Year's Day without a Dutch player. It is the first time since 2012 that no Dutch darts player is in the last eight at the showpiece tournament.
Michael van Gerwen was the best performing Dutchman in 2012, finishing in the last sixteen. Since 2013, Van Gerwen has always managed to reach at least the quarter-finals in Alexandra Palace, with the exception of 2016 and 2022. The 32-year-old didn't lose a match during the current World Championship. Mighty Mike had to withdraw from his match against Chris Dobey in the third round due to a positive COVID-19 test.
Raymond van Barneveld has reached the quarter-finals at the World Darts Championship since 2012 in the years 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2018, and even the last four in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Vincent van der Voort (2015), Jelle Klaasen (2016) and Dirk van Duijvenbode (2021) were the other Dutch quarter-finalists in the last nine years.
Van Duijvenbode and Martijn Kleermaker reached the furthest point during the current World Championships. Kleermaker lost in the last sixteen to James Wade, while Van Duijvenbode was eliminated in the same round by reigning world champion Gerwyn Price.
