Colin Lloyd is a veteran of darts and has seen it all and done it all, so when he offers his opinion on the new generation in the sport its worth paying attention to.
Lloyd like many darts’ fans understand and realise the Luke Littler effect is bringing a lot of brand new eyes onto the sport of darts – but people are at the risk of forgetting about Luke Humphries and what he is achieving.
''Let’s have a look at the Luke Humphries effect, that boy is absolutely class'', he told MDA Events. I’ve got the utmost respect for Luke Humphries, Brilliant player. Not just World Champion, Not just World Number one, Grand Slam Champion, Grand Prix Champion, Players Championship Champion (and World Cup and World Matchplay Champion) Unbelievable.''
Jaws does have a point, in any other year Luke Humphries achievements would put him front and centre of the darting world and his name would be compared to the greats from the other eras . However it's Luke Littler who is getting the lion’s share of the press attention and recognition despite only having won the Premier League, in comparison to Cool Hand Luke Humphries stacked trophy cabinet
''He's a class act, can he achieve what Michael van Gerwen has? What Taylor has? Before then the likes of Lowe, Bristow, Jockey Wilson? Only time will tell.''
Colin Lloyd’s point is that people are focussed on Luke Littler and despite him being a generational talent, don’t ignore the other talent currently active in Luke Humphries. Lloyd goes on to mention the other talent currently active in darts and suggests that we are lucky to be watching an era of such great talent.
''When you have the likes of those two young men... The games in a great place. And then you’ve git the likes of Nathan Aspinall, Gerwyn Price, Rob Cross is finding some form again, Stephen Bunting, Barney is on the comeback trail… Josh Rock, let’s not forget about Josh Rock, classy little player! I am very fortunate now that I am behind the camera, I’m watching.''
