After a difficult period, Gary Anderson is performing extremely well again this year. The two-time former world champion has advanced to 20th place in the world rankings.
Yet the 52-year-old Scot is also arousing quite a bit of irritation, as revealed in the podcast 'Double Top'. "Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that Gary is doing so well again. I certainly didn't expect that after last year, I rather thought he would stop at the end of this year, he seemed completely fed up with darts," said Damian Vlottes. "But he says all the time that he doesn't practice, that bothers me insanely. That you don't practice, ok, but then also saying that all the time, I find it bloody irritating."
Ex-pro Erik Clarys also questions this. "I base myself on my own career, if I didn't train for two weeks, it took about three months before I got the good feeling back. So I really do doubt Anderson's words."
"On the other hand, the calendar is so heavy these days, training every day no longer works out and doesn't have to. But stopping training completely, that seems impossible. I also catch Gary sometimes falling through, especially when I hear Ryan Searle say that they train together regularly."
