Michael van Gerwen lost out in the final of the US Darts Masters to Michael Smith 8-4 after a superb late burst from 'Bully Boy' but it caps off the first Madison Square Garden edition of the tournament and one that MVG was full of praise for.
“This is a massive step forward for the professionalism of darts in general and the global sport of darts. I’m really glad you’re part of it (to the crowd)," said Van Gerwen.
Also he was full of praise for his opponent and as usual said that when he faces a display like that, he can only applaud.
“Of course I want to win but Michael played a really good game and then you need to take your hat off and say congratulations."
