The Saturday evening session of the
2026 German Darts Grand Prix delivered immediate chaos on the
European Tour, as
Raymond van Barneveld suffered a shock defeat,
Peter Wright followed him out, and home favourite
Ricardo Pietreczko scraped through a nervy decider in Munich.
It proved a night defined by fine margins, missed doubles and decisive moments, with three matches going all the way and established names struggling to assert control.
Hausotter produces huge shock to down Van Barneveld
The headline moment of the night belonged to Marcel Hausotter, who claimed a first-ever win on the European Tour by defeating van Barneveld 6-4 in front of a vocal Munich crowd.
The German qualifier showed no signs of being overawed, breaking the five-time world champion multiple times in a tense contest. An 84 finish on the bull in the closing stages helped swing momentum his way before he returned to
take out 76 on tops to seal a memorable victory.
Van Barneveld had chances to take control, including a spell where he missed six darts at double in a single leg, but was repeatedly punished as Hausotter held his nerve to close out one of the biggest results of his career.
Pietreczko survives as pressure nearly tells
If Hausotter’s win was the shock, Pietreczko’s was the tension. The German edged past Ian White 6-5 in a match defined by missed opportunities on the outer ring, with both players struggling to find fluency throughout. White looked set to punish a costly miss at D7 to move within one leg of victory, only for Pietreczko to respond under pressure.
A 49 checkout on D8 forced a decider, and when the final dart landed, Pietreczko dropped to his knees in relief after scraping through a match that threatened to slip away on multiple occasions.

Wright joins exits as Doets impresses in dominant display
Peter Wright became the second high-profile casualty of the evening, falling 6-3 to Kim Huybrechts in a match that never quite reached a high standard but saw the Belgian take his chances at key moments.
Wright briefly threatened a comeback, producing a classy 96 finish to close the gap, but missed opportunities proved costly as Huybrechts regained control and closed out the win.
In contrast, Kevin Doets delivered one of the most convincing performances of the session, whitewashing Anton Ostlund 6-0 with a clinical display that included a standout 170 checkout.
Elsewhere,
Michael Smith and Dirk van Duijvenbode both progressed with 6-2 victories without ever fully convincing, while Brendan Dolan edged a scrappy deciding leg against Cor Dekker after both players missed multiple darts for the match.

Springer caps dramatic night with deciding leg win on debut stage
The evening’s final tie followed a familiar pattern as Niko Springer edged past fellow German Jan Schmidt 6-5 in another tense deciding leg encounter. Schmidt, making his European Tour debut, had put himself in position to complete a memorable win after breaking throw to force a decider and earning the darts. But a nervy start to the final leg, which saw him fail to find a treble with his opening nine darts, proved costly.
Springer capitalised in clinical fashion, firing in a crucial 180 before returning to take out 69 in two darts to seal victory and round off a night dominated by fine margins.
