Gerwyn Price claimed his third ranking title of the 2025 PDC season on Wednesday afternoon in Leicester. 'The Iceman' edged out
Josh Rock 8-7 in a thrilling final at the 12th
Players Championship of the year.
Price and Rock produced a fantastic final at the Mattioli Arena. Despite averaging 101.39—nearly ten points lower than Rock's impressive 110.70—the 40-year-old Welshman held his nerve to seal the victory. Earlier in the season, Price also triumphed at Players Championships 2 and 9.
“Josh played fantastic darts to come back, but luckily I got a big lead otherwise he would have blown me away,” conceded the Welshman afterwards. “I didn’t perform that well on the outside boards today, but I played really well on the streaming boards. I felt a little bit more comfortable and just seemed to zone in, and this will give me a boost going into the Premier League tomorrow."
“In the past I have gone to the Premier League but then ended up missing ProTour’s and European tournaments. It catches up with you," Price reflected in comments to the PDC's media channels afterwards. "Now I am world number 12. If you are going to miss tournaments in two years’ time it will bite you. So, I am going to attend as many as possible throughout the year and get myself back up the rankings.”
Speaking of
Premier League Darts though, later tonight, Price goes head to head with table topper
Luke Littler, who notably suffered relatively early exits at both of the midweek Players Championships. “I’m looking forward to tomorrow. Luke Littler is not in the best of form. I know I have a couple of games up on him," Price previewed confidently after his title win.
“In his own backyard of Manchester, it is going to be tough, but I am looking forward to that one," the former world champion concludes. "By winning these it gives you great confidence moving forward.”
