After its annual trip to Germany, the
Premier League Darts 2025 is back on British soil this week. The tenth round of play of the prestigious darts competition will be played at the AO Arena in Manchester.
Manchester is the only playing city on the current Premier League calendar that has been part of the touring darts circus since the event's inception in 2005. That year, Manchester even hosted the Premier League final, with Phil Taylor capturing the very first edition with a resounding 16-4 victory over Colin Lloyd.
Follow the 2025 Premier League Darts via our LIVE SCORE!In the past three years, the mini-tournament in Manchester has had an English winner each time. In 2022, James Wade crowned himself the weekly winner with wins over Gary Anderson (6-2),
Gerwyn Price (6-2) and Joe Cullen (6-5).
Manchester United fan Michael Smith shined in 2023 in front of his own crowd. He dealt with Nathan Aspinall (6-3),
Michael van Gerwen (6-4) and Jonny Clayton (6-3). Against Clayton, Smith even recorded an average of 110.05. In 2024, the weekly title once again went to a passionate fan of the local soccer club.
Luke Littler then ran away with the win by beating Michael van Gerwen (6-3), Nathan Aspinall (6-4) and Gerwyn Price (6-3).
Chris Dobey v Michael van Gerwen
The task is clear for Michael van Gerwen in Manchester; take points. And with the schedule of this round of play, a final place should certainly be the goal. After all, the other three players in the top four of the Premier League are all at opposite ends of the bracket. Van Gerwen had to return home scoreless in Berlin last week after a last-minute injury forced him to withdraw. A week earlier in Newcastle, 'Mighty Mike' also failed to score any points, so the Dutchman is ready for another good result to boost his chances of making the playoffs.
Chris Dobey's chances of making it to the final night are dwindling by the week, although 'Hollywood' did manage to win another match last week. The darter from Bedlington stunted against frontrunner Luke Littler to take his fourth win of the competition. With seven points, Dobey is still six points behind number four Van Gerwen, and with a defeat the difference to the top four already becomes at least eight points. So it is actually a must-win for Dobey, who in case of defeat can almost put a tentative cross through participation in the playoffs.
It will be the third meeting between Van Gerwen and Dobey in this Premier League. Van Gerwen won the previous two duels 6-4 and 6-1, respectively. In the overall head-to-head, 'MVG' leads 21-6.
Nathan Aspinall v Rob Cross
An important match for both men, as Rob Cross and Nathan Aspinall are the respective numbers five and six in the standings. A loss does not mean a permanent drop out, but a win would mean hooking up. Both men kept zero points from their visit to Berlin last week.
Aspinall suffered a 6-2 defeat to Stephen Bunting, while Cross had to acknowledge his superiority to
Luke Humphries (6-3). With Bunting's surprise weekly title last week, Cross is now the only player in this Premier League Darts who has yet to reach a weekly final this season. Cross has already been in the semifinals of six rounds of play this season, but failed to win any of those six matches.
It will be the 21st time Aspinall and Cross have faced each other. Although Cross was still ahead 8-5 in the mutual balance against his compatriot a year and a half ago, the momentum has completely turned. Aspinall managed to win all of the last seven duels, including two in this Premier League, and is now 12-8 ahead.
Luke Littler v Gerwyn Price
Gerwyn Price took full advantage of rival Michael van Gerwen's withdrawal last week. 'The Iceman' advanced to the semifinals without playing and eventually managed to reach the final in Berlin. After two previous weekly titles, the Welshman had to content himself with second place, but nevertheless Price secured three important points for the ranking, where he now occupies third place.
A cracker awaits in Manchester against frontrunner Luke Littler, who suffered a surprising defeat against Chris Dobey in the previous round of play. And now awaits his archrival, as Price has an excellent record against the reigning world champion. The last six clashes between them have all been won by Price, who has won a total of seven of the 11 matches with Littler going his way.
It will be a special night for Littler anyway, as Manchester is a home match for him. 'The Nuke' will undoubtedly be looking forward to being heralded as the reigning world champion at the AO Arena. Moreover, Littler has a chance to make history in Manchester. The 18-year-old teenage sensation already has four weekly titles under his belt and could become the first player to win five weekly titles in a single Premier League season.
Stephen Bunting v Luke Humphries
After eight tough weeks, Bunting experienced perhaps one of the greatest weeks of his career last week. Not only did he book his first Premier League victory in Berlin, he also managed to win the round by beating Luke Humphries, among others. That was not all, because last weekend 'The Bullet' also won his first Euro Tour title. And at that tournament, too, he beat Humphries on his way to his triumph. With just five points from nine rounds of play, a place among the top four still seems to be a huge task for Bunting, but the advantage of the current Premier League format is that 'The Bullet' still has everything in his own hands.
Humphries has been very erratic in his performances in recent weeks. He alternates great matches with mediocre performances, and in recent weeks the smile seems to have increasingly disappeared from his face as well. Last weekend, Humphries did come up with an explanation for that. 'Cool Hand Luke' revealed in Riesa that he is emotionless on stage and that he desperately needs a break from the busy darts schedule. For now, Humphries does not have to worry that a playoffs spot is at stake, but to catch up with frontrunner Littler yet, the world number one will have to regain some weekly titles soon.
Bunting's win over Humphries twice in the past week has also meant that his gap with Humphries in the head-to-head has narrowed a lot. After 20 games, however, the score is still 12-8 in Humphries' favor.
Winner's bonus of £10,000
A unique aspect of the Premier League is that a separate tournament is played each week of play, with the winner receiving an additional £10,000. This means that a player who manages to win multiple weeks of play can boost his prize money considerably. Since the league lasts for 16 weeks, an additional total of £160,000 can be distributed to the winners of these nights of play.
With performances, players also earn points toward the Premier League standings. The winner of a weekly tournament receives five points, while the losing finalist takes home three points. Semi-finalists keep two points and players who lose their opening match go home scoreless.
