After falling to eight consecutive defeats to start his 2025 Premier League Darts season, it's fair to say not even the most ardent of Stephen Bunting's fans gave him much chance of a spot in the playoffs. After taking the win on Night Nine however, and backing that up with a first ever European Tour title on the weekend, suddenly the momentum could be on the side of 'The Bullet'.
Tonight in Manchester, Bunting and the rest of the PDC's biggest stars return to Premier League Darts action. In his quarter-final, Bunting faces off against world number one Luke Humphries. “I know I’m playing against the best players in the world, but I also know I’ve got the game to beat these guys,” insists the resurgent Bunting, who will be looking to crown his 40th birthday in style with a second successive weekly win this Thursday night.
“I’m world number four, I’m playing some of the best darts of my life at the minute, and hopefully this is just the start of things to come," Bunting continues his analysis. "I’ve dug in and played some really good darts, and I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season now."
Although he remains rooted to the foot of the league table for now, the five points he picked up last week have given Bunting renewed hope of finishing inside the top 4 and reaching the O2 Arena for the end of season playoffs after 16 weeks. If he can go and pick up five more points in Manchester tonight, he'll certainly be right back in the mix.
“It’s not dead and buried," concludes Bunting with a tangible sense of determination. "I’m not out of it yet, and I will keep fighting right until the very end of the Premier League.”
