Gerwyn Price edges past Jonny Clayton in all-Welsh derby, first into PDC World Darts Championship Quarter-Finals

Gerwyn Price has started the Last 16 by edging past his World Cup of Darts teammate Jonny Clayton to reach the Quarter-Finals of the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship.

Price claimed a 4-2 sets win over 'The Ferret' and now has a big chance to reach the semi-finals when he takes on either Kevin Doets or Chris Dobey who will face off in the latter stages.

Price finished with a 92 average, five 180's, a high checkout of 124 and 36% on the outer ring in victory to continue his resurgence on the Ally Pally stage.

It was a commanding start from Price as he clinched the opening set 3-1 with three 180's and a 103.3 average as he set his stall out early against 'The Ferret'. The Iceman strengthened his stranglehold early on as he sealed the second set 3-1 to double his lead.

He pinned four 180's, 55% on the doubles and a 107 average as he continued to rise to the occasion and Clayton did the complete opposite at that juncture of the contest as Price went 2-0 up.

But Clayton had a magnificent response among the barrage from his opponent as he landed the third set without reply and finally took the game to his opponent. He produced checkouts of 72, 121 and 141 to move back into contention. He further did so with missed doubles proving to be an achilles heel for Price with 7/21 in all as Clayton wrapped up the set to restore parity.

But Price again regained the lead and did not have a further blip unlike his last match where he was taken the distance. He broke to start the next set with Clayton not able to take out 96 to hold and he consolidated. Price hit a 65 checkout to make it 2-0 and then completed the feat after more missed chances from Clayton as he nailed double 20 for the win 3-1 and 4-2 overall.
