The shocks continue at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship with the biggest of all as Luke Humphries, the World No.1 and defending champion has been bundled out in the Last 16 by a resurgent Peter Wright 4-1.
Wright who came into the tournament with people questioning his career after a poor year has proven the doubters wrong as he so often does again with a truly sensational display. He hit a 101 average and in particular 70% on the doubles as he was truly at his vintage best. Luke Littler was the potential semi-final for Humphries but now Wright has put the cat certainly among the pigeons.

Wright was superb to start the tie as he opened up the first set by edging the deciding leg with a 13-darter at the right time. Humphries hit back levelling up at 1-1 in sets also in a decider with both sets having the potential to go either way.
But the big moment came in the set for Humphries as he pinned a terrific 161 checkout to level up. Wright found another gear though with a truly dazzling array of finishing.
He cleaned up 96 to edge the third set in a decider and regain the upper-hand having hit 8/11 on the outer ring as he went 2-1 up and Humphries was in serious trouble after the next set.
Wright pinned 11/16 to go 3-1 up in sets as 'Snakebite' went two clear in a shellshocking display considering his year and also his recent chest infection which saw him under the weather but still performing against Jermaine Wattimena.
But you create your own luck and he rampantly took the final set of the tie to batter the defending champion 4-1. It was an emphatic clean sweep as Wright pinned the bull for an 88 checkout and a 1-0 lead. Humphries left 41 after nine but still didn't get a shot.
Wright hit double 20 to go 2-0 up and Humphries was resigned to his fate as Wright took out double eight after missing double 16 to seal the win. Truly sensational.
