Gerwyn Price will head towards potential darting destiny on Sunday night as he faces a familiar rival in 'The Flying Scotsman' Gary Anderson in the final of the 2021 PDC
World Darts Championship.
Ahead of the conclusion of the showpiece event, DartsNews looks at his route to the final and his tournament statistics with it all coming down to the best of 13 sets at the Alexandra Palace.
'The Iceman' like his opponent had a very interesting complexion to his route with Price seemingly riding his luck at times. He survived an opening scare against Jamie Lewis as he came from a set down and not at his best to see off a resurgent Fireball.
Another gruelling examination followed with Brendan Dolan looking to foil the plan of the World Number Three. A tough Last 32 assignment with 'The History Maker' one of the most in-form players on the circuit this year and he was taken all the way to a sudden death thriller before emerging a 4-3 victor.
It was a lot more comprehensive against Mervyn King with a 4-1 win with a 97 average, three ton plus checkouts and 52% on the doubles as it became the first game ironically in the evening sessions during the Last 16 not to go all legs.
It was back to sudden death thrillers though as his route continued with Daryl Gurney the next player to fall before he had to come from 3-1 and 4-3 behind to defeat Stephen Bunting 6-4 in a record breaking game with the most ton plus checkouts in World Championship history.
A tie now awaits against Anderson who he has a lot of history against with the added caveat of a first Welsh PDC World Champion. As well as the World Number One spot if he wins unseating Michael van Gerwen in the first time in over seven years.
Price has been the dominant force at times during 2020 and he could finally live up to that with World Championship glory and the top spot in the PDC Order of Merit. Can 'The Iceman' cometh?
His tournament stats as per DartsTracker sees a 97.95 tournament average with 105.97 as the first nine. He has steadily sat around the 97 mark throughout the tournament with his best average coming against Stephen Bunting showing that he might be hitting form at the right time.
He has hit 42 180's and 44% on the doubles with 20 ton plus checkouts aided by that game against Bunting.
While not at his brilliant best, he has scraped through when he has needed to with flashes of brilliance coming throughout.
