Gerwyn Price has shown that the route to defeat
Luke Littler is merely to produce record breaking averages as he produced 115 in reaching the
Bahrain Darts Masters semi-finals 6-2.
Price has underwent criticism for his inclusion in the Premier League Darts line-up after a pretty poor year but on this display alone shows that he is still very much box office. He hit seven 180's, 6/10 on the doubles with a high checkout of 110.
He also missed double 12 for a nine-dart finish during the tie as he went close to achieving the feat that Littler did last year.
Littler himself didn't perform badly as he hit a 105 average, five 180's and a high out of 12 darts. But he also missed seven darts at double during the tie as in the legs that Price gave him a chance, he missed and 'The Iceman' hit.
It is also a new record and the 115.31 is the biggest ever in the Bahrain Darts Masters. He hit two 11 darters and his lowest winning leg was a 17 darter.
He started as he meant to go on as he hit two 180's to start the tie before missing the nine-darter and pinned double 20 for the first leg with throw.
Price missed the chance to break narrowly missing bull before Littler held throw. But Price broke as Littler missed five darts at double. Price pinned double 15 off a 90 for 3-1. Price then missed the double 12 for a nine-darter and Littler took out double 20 for 4-2.
But Price hit a sixth 180 of the match and move to within one of victory. A feat he soon achieved. Stephen Bunting's record average lasted all of a game as it was usurped by Price.
He will now face off against
Peter Wright who came through a scare against
Paolo Nebrida 6-4. 'Snakebite' surged into a 3-1 lead but was pegged back to 3-3 before he finally managed to shake off the FIlipino thrower.
He wasn't able to live with Wright early on who wasn't at his best but was merely going about his business. But Nebrida found a second wind and was neck and neck with Snakebite. Wright started to struggle further on doubles as Nebrida finally made him pay for 4-4. Before Wright though was handed an opportunity of his own to make it 5-4. He then finally fell over the line hitting the double at the second time of asking and given the display of Price, it will need to be a lot better next round.
