It has been some return to World Series of Darts action for Stephen Bunting who will contest the final later on this evening in Sakhir. He saw off Luke Humphries in a deciding leg 7-6 to seal his spot.
It was a match that Humphries led throughout but in the pivotal moments down the stretch, it was 'The Bullet' that reigned supreme. He averaged 99 with five 180's and 50% on the doubles as he edged through.
Earlier tonight, he hit a 112 average in swatting aside Chris Dobey and is making good on his World Series of Darts return. Becoming one of the best players in the world and also one of the biggest fan favourites, Bunting could leave Bahrain with the opening title of the season later tonight.
Bunting had the higher average early on in the tie but it was in fact Humphries that narrowly led as he pinned a 123 checkout en route to a 4-3 lead despite averaging 92.3 to Bunting's 96.5.
Humphries pinned double 10 to hold for 5-3 but Bunting kept at arms length despite needing a break. He made it 5-4 with Humphries way back. Humphries continue the two leg cushion going 6-4 up with a 56 checkout but 'Cool Hand Luke' missed a chance for 7-5 and it was suddenly 6-5.
Bunting hit 177 and when Humphries couldn't hit 147, he returned for 6-6 on double six. A 96 checkout with Humphries hitting 140 to leave 46 decided the tie in favour of Bunting.
He now faces either Gerwyn Price who actually took his average record earlier tonight after one game or it will be Peter Wright for the title in Sakhir. While Humphries now moves on to Den Bosch next week.
