Gerwyn Priceโs victory at Players Championship 6 not only delivered another title for โThe Iceman,โ but also a notable statistical milestone for Welsh darts. It marked the 80th time a player from Wales reached a final on the PDC
Pro Tour. With Price and Jonny Clayton as the leading standard-bearers, Wales once again underlines its firm place among the global darting elite.
That it is Price who breaks this barrier is anything but a coincidence. The former world champion has been the face of Welsh darts for years and carries a huge share of the nationโs success on his own. Of those 80 finals, a remarkable 46 belong to Price. That means he is responsible for over 57 percent of all Welsh
Pro Tour finals. An impressive share that once again highlights his consistency at floor events.
Jointly with Clayton the main drivers of Welsh success
Behind Price follows his compatriot
Jonny Clayton with 19 final appearances. โThe Ferretโ has enjoyed a strong spell in recent years, collecting multiple titles and establishing himself among the worldโs elite. Together, Price and Clayton account for 65 of the 80 Welsh finals โ clear evidence that Walesโs current success is largely powered by these two players.
Behind them are several names from earlier generations who made their mark. Barrie Bates reached five Pro Tour finals, while Richie Burnett made four finals. Burnett was already a BDO world champion in the 1990s and also showcased his class within the PDC.
Mark Webster, former BDO world champion, reached two Pro Tour finals in the PDC
Webster, Williams and Lewis with two finals each
Additionally, Mark Webster, Jim Williams, and Jamie Lewis each stand on two Pro Tour finals. Webster in particular made his international name with his BDO world title, while Lewis became known to the wider public with his run to the 2018 Worlds semi-final.
The milestone of 80 finals shows how Wales has developed in breadth as a darts nation. Where it once hinged on occasional outliers, there is now a sustained presence in the latter stages of tournaments. With Price and Clayton in top form, it also seems likely that this number will continue to rise in the coming years.
The triumph at Players Championship 6 is therefore more than just another trophy in Priceโs cabinet. It is also a symbolic moment for Welsh darts โ a confirmation of years of growth, quality, and international impact.
