Only one Dutchman remains in Zwolle at the
Dutch Darts Championship carrying the hopes of the crowd and that is Danny Noppert after Dirk van Duijvenbode bowed out in the Quarter-Finals to another superb display from
Andrew Gilding.
Gilding having reached a ProTour final this season is one match away to adding a
European Tour final to his resume with the potential for a maiden title later this evening and given his current form, it would be hard to bet against 'Goldfinger'.
He took an early lead going 4-0 up after two 13-darters and two 15-darters before Van Duijvenbode fought back only for Gilding again to produce when it mattered most with a 12-darter for the win in a display which saw a 104.3 average and 50% on the doubles.
He will face the likely favourite for the title this evening in
Michael Smith who is also in a rich vein of form but hasn't won a European Tour since 2017.
'Bully Boy' did the reverse of what Gilding did in that he was 4-0 down to Mervyn King before recovering to win six legs on the spin and reach the semi-finals capping it off with a 102 checkout. The winner will face either Danny Noppert or Callan Rydz.
