Daryl Gurney is into the third round of the 2021/22 PDC
World Darts Championship and will return after Christmas to face the winner of the section which features Rob Cross, Raymond van Barneveld and Lourence Ilagan.
This after a high quality 3-1 win over his stablemate, Ricky Evans. He produced a 95 average, six 180's, 42% on the checkouts with a high checkout of 107 as 'Superchin' produces again.
In a quick fire start, it was all square as both exchanged breaks early doors. Gurney hit the front though with a 180 followed by a 146 which sent the crowd into raptures from Evans.
He pinched the opening set with a 72 checkout with Gurney missing set darts.
A 180 and double five saw Evans take the lead in the second set. It was raining maximums with Gurney pinning his third to go towards a hold.
Evans missed double 16 for a hold and Gurney punished on double eight to go one away from the set.
The latter spurned set darts though and Evans hit two bulls before hand to leave 15 but missed two darts to break.
Gurney returned for double five and pinned it to seal the set. A 76 checkout was pinned by Gurney who went into the lead.
But Evans replied with a 180 and double eight to tie the game up. This continued with Gurney going 2-1 up.
He pinned double two last dart in hand for a 2-1 sets lead. A 107 checkout saw Gurney surge into the lead with a break.
Evans hit back immediately with a 71 checkout using two double 16's as he looked to force a deciding set.
Both pinned 180's but it was Evans who held after Gurney missed 121 on the bull and he was 2-1 up. Another 180 was pinned by Gurney to put the mark up to five.
It was a decider as Gurney held on double 16. With Evans down to 147, it was another 180 for Gurney.
The former missed 147 and a further three darts to force a decider before Gurney returned to close it out on double 20.
