Barstow on muting Norman Jnr's celebrations at PDC World Darts Championship: "Luckily he didn't have a lot to cheer about"

Chas Barstow is through to what is bound to be a quality tie with Michael van Gerwen in the second round on debut at the Alexandra Palace.

Barstow admitted he felt like a 'rabbit in the headlights' to begin his debut at the PDC World Darts Championship as he downed John Norman Jnr 3-1.

"It definitely felt that way. I was so nervous going up there, I found my form quite quick. Those first couple of legs, I was just like get them out of the way and get on with the game and it was alright after that," he said post match.

Taking floor form

After a brilliant year on the ProTour which saw him qualify without a PDC Tour Card, he knew he needed to take some of that form onto the big stage.

"I knew I needed to and the important shots like the 102, the 103. Shots that I needed, I managed to find.

John Norman Jnr celebrations

There was a lot made pre match about the boisterous Canadian who is known for his celebrations and he was glad to shut him out.

"Luckily he didn't have a lot to cheer about so it wasn't too bad. He's a nice guy, I was prepared for it but I shut him out a little bit."

Next up is Michael van Gerwen and he is looking forward to revelling in the Saturday night atmosphere.

"I'm so looking forward to it. The atmosphere's going to be amazing. It's going to be awesome. I could get a (Tour) Card this way so why not."
