Guyana has secured its place at the upcoming
World Cup of Darts. The country won the Latin American qualifying tournament in Costa Rica last weekend.
Madhoo, present for the fourth time at the World Cup of Darts last December, will represent Guyana along with his compatriot Sudesh Fitzgerald, who participated in the World Cup in 2009. Also last year, Guyana participated in the World Cup of Darts with the same players, then remained scoreless in a pool with Gibraltar and Australia.
The qualifier was open to countries in Central and South America and the Caribbean and 12 countries participated. Guyana was dominant in the group stage, losing only two legs en route to first place in Group B. Afterwards, Panama was defeated for a place in the semifinals.
There, a showdown with home country Costa Rica was scheduled. Madhoo and Fitzgerald, however, knew no mercy with their opponents and won 4-0.
In the final, Guyana faced Nicaraguan pair Norwin Jimenez and Gerald Ordenanan, whom they had defeated 4-2 earlier in the pool stage. In a beautiful final they did even slightly better with 4-1, allowing them to book their ticket to Germany.
The 14th edition of this year's World Cup of Darts will take place in Frankfurt from June 13-16.
